Performance Art Piece "Self Portrait"

PERFORMANCE ART VIDEO

It is called self portrait because I essentially painted what I am, which is a consumer in America. I wore red white and blue sunglasses and used red, white, and blue paint. I first performed this piece in Channelside where the tunnel that leads you to the plaza from the garage is. I lasted there for about 4 minutes before security asked me to leave. I then performed this piece in Channelside where everyone leaving the lighting game walked by on their way to the parking garage.

Check out this song by The Weeknd. They sampled from the song Happy House by Siouxsie And The Banshees

Code.org

After watching this video made me realize how important it is for everyone to learn at least a basic amount of coding in grade school. I wish i started writing code in the 6th grade, I could only imagine how much knowledge I could potentially have right now if there was a coding class. The job environment that they show in this video looks awesome. A full time chef and laundry? How can you pass up that offer!

Guerrilla Girls

I have never heard of the Guerrilla Girls before taking this course. I was amazed at how, not only are women, but also African Americans, are put down in the art industry. The fact that by 2005, a total of only 3 women have ever been nominated for an Oscar. I have a lot of respect for the Guerrilla Girls, not only for their political art, but how they have reached out to millions of women everywhere and have certainly made a difference and opened eyes.

"Her Morning Elegance"

This is an amazing stop motion video. I think it should have much more views. Its extremely creative, and i believe one of the first music videos to do such a thing. This started a chain reaction of stop animation music videos and commercials.

Surrealism

This is by far one of my favorite art movements. It is basically art created from the unconscious mind. Artists of this time embraced the realm of the subconscious and produced these magnificent pieces. It was a new way depicting reality by putting an emphasis on the subconscious. The most popular example is the painting of the melting clocks. This is a quick video that introduces more simplistic concepts of surrealism.

Violence in Veido games

A junior in high school did a report on this conflict and it is actually quite interesting and insightful. He explains that there is data that proves violent video games affect children negatively in some ways, but there are many points that dispute those ideas. He goes on to explain that violent video games don't actually make children violent at all, and that they are just an escape from reality and just entertaining. These violent video gives children the ability to communicate with friends and family online and even complete strangers, therefore they do not really become socially inadequate. He does explain that playing excessively can attribute with obesity. I personally believe that violent video games do not necessarily make people violent, but they definitely desensitize children.

Ray Kurzwiel

Ray Kurzwiel is a very intelligent and famous futurist. He realized that you can actually predict where the powers of computers and technology will be in the future, and how it grows exponentially in time. Computers double in power in less than a year. He believes that in around 20 years we will have computers the size of blood cells that will be a billion times more powerful than the computers we use today. Technology is extremely important to humans. With more technology comes more human knowledge and understanding. In this video he shows how amazingly smooth the progression of technological advances have actually been. It is amazing how on point he has been. The graph he shows, proves that the predictions are accurate. he finished the graph in 1980 and the computers that he predicted to come in the 20 years after, exist today.  Watch this whole video when you get the chance, it is mind blowing.

Alan Turing

Alan Turing is the creator of the first basic computer, which is the predecessor for all the computers we use today. His first creation was the "Turing Machine." At age 27 he solved the enigma code in 3 months, which basically won the war against the Germans. After the war he continued to work on his own. He thought of the first computer which enabled it to respond to whatever the person was typing. He developed the idea of "machine intelligence," which today is called artificial intelligence. Every modern computer is "Turing equivalence." The man was an absolute genius.

Minstrel Shows

Minstrel Documentary

Watching this really makes me sick. The fact that for almost a century African Americans weren't allowed to be on stage is cray. I watch the performances by the white people acting as African Americans in amazement. They deliberately made fun of the African American culture, and these shows were the most popular. To make things even worse, while these shows were going on, 100's of African Americans were being lynched. These were very dark times indeed. African Americans were stereotyped as fun loving people who loved to entertain while on long breaks from their cotton picking. Absolutely ridiculous..

Xerox Project

I also Photoshopped my work to see what it looks like with some filters on it.

Here is where it all started. I had this idea of creating a sun. This idea then spontaneously turned into making a creature that morphs into something demonic. I guess in a way I sub-consciously created myself and then an alter-ego. The alter-ego being the multiple limned creature on the inside of the poster board.
